Deadline is reporting that Emmy nominated actor Michael Kelly (House of Cards, The Long Road Home) will be joining the second season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan as a series regular. The Amazon series, starring John Krasinski, was recently renewed ahead of its global series debut set for August 31 on Prime Video.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, from Paramount Television and Skydance Television, is a reinvention with a modern sensibility of the famed and lauded Tom Clancy hero played by John Krasinski (A Quiet Place, 13 Hours). The creators of the series, Executive Producers Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Graham Roland (Fringe, Prison Break), will continue to serve as co-showrunners. Additionally, Krasinski, who also serves as an executive producer, will be reunited with Wendell Pierce who will reprise his role as James Greer in the eight-episode second season.
In Season 2, Jack Ryan confronts the forces in power in a dangerous, declining democratic regime in South America. The second season commences production this summer in Europe, South America and the United States.
Kelly will portray Mike November, a smart, seasoned career field officer in the CIA who works with both Jack Ryan and Jim Greer throughout the new season. He will be joining other announced series newcomers Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) and John Hoogenakker (Colony).
Rapace will play Harriet “Harry” Baumann, a highly capable, sharply intelligent and intoxicatingly charming BND agent (German’s Secret Intelligence) who crosses paths with Jack Ryan in South America. Hoogenakker plays Matice, a tough and salty American who works black ops for the CIA.
In the first season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Krasinski’s Ryan is an up-and-coming CIA analyst thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time. The series follows the titular character as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale. The one-hour, eight-episode dramatic season also stars Wendell Pierce (The Wire) as James Greer and Abbie Cornish (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) as Cathy Mueller.
The show is produced by Paramount Television, Cuse’s Genre Arts, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and David Ellison’s Skydance Television. Executive producing along with Cuse, Roland and Krasinski are Platinum Dune’s Bay, Andrew Form (Transformers), and Brad Fuller. Additionally, Lindsey Springer, Mace Neufeld (Patriot Games), Vince Calandra, Andrew Bernstein and Skydance’s Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross will also executive produce the second season with Allyson Seeger serving as a co-executive producer.
The first season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan will be globally released on August 31, with season two set to premiere in 2019.
